Year-End Dental Practice Checklist

Close the year and plan the next. Six jobs for dental practice owners, in the order the calendar asks for them, each with the Cisor service that handles it.

  1. October – November

    Review the year’s numbers

Before you plan next year, see where this one landed. Cisor Metrics builds KPIs from your financial statements and bank transactions to show which areas of the practice are working and which need attention.

  2. Before December 31

Plan taxes while the year is still open

Tax planning only helps with decisions you can still make, so have the conversation before the year closes. Cisor provides tax planning, preparation and compliance services to dental practices.

  3. November – December

    Line up January hires

If the practice needs a hygienist, assistant or front-desk hire in the new year, start recruiting now. Cisor handles recruitment, onboarding and HR documentation, and its staffing service can place professionals for temporary assignments.

  4. December – January

    Close out clean books

Reconciled, organized records make tax preparation easier and give you a reliable picture of the year. Get the books closed before they go to whoever prepares your return.

  5. January

    Set next year’s marketing plan

Decide where new patients will come from before the year gets busy: your website, SEO, pay-per-click and community relations.

  6. By February 1, 2027

    Send W-2s and 1099-NECs

Employers must furnish 2026 Forms W-2 to employees and file them with the SSA by February 1, 2027. Form 1099-NEC for contractors is due January 31, which falls on a Sunday in 2027, so the deadline moves to the next business day, February 1. Confirm the details for your practice with the IRS instructions or your tax preparer.
